Go Daddy – Gives Millions To Charities & Employees

December 28th, 2007 No comments

For the year, Go Daddy’s philanthropic works totaled $1.4 million in donations alone. The Scottsdale-based company helped organizations dedicated to a variety of causes, including domestic violence, child abuse, blind children, unwed mothers, homelessness, as well as Parkinson’s disease, Juvenile Diabetes, food banks and animal shelters.

“It’s important to us to make a difference in our community and all over the world,” said Go Daddy CEO and Founder Bob Parsons.

Parsons also doubled his donation to needy children in Tucson, Arizona this month. He did it in style too, while riding his Harley-Davidson as the Grand Marshall for the Sun Riders 26th Annual Motorcycle Toy Parade benefiting Aviva Children’s Services.

Go Daddy’s own employees have also benefited from the company’s most successful year ever. More than $1 million was awarded to employees in 2007. Employee prizes included cash, cars, a year’s mortgage paid, a four-year college scholarship and a trip around the world that included 20-paid vacation days and $10,000 spending money.

“We learned a long time ago, happy employees are productive employees,” Parsons said after the company’s holiday party this year. “We hold fun contests all throughout the whole year.”

Go Daddy rented out Chase Field for their holiday party, hired the Gin Blossoms to entertain and gave away gifts to each and every employee. The event was hailed as “the party to end all parties” at a time when most companies are scaling back.

Axe Effect

December 14th, 2007 No comments

Living up to its brand promise, Axe came out with a tasty new commercial a little while ago. Unlike the ‘we make a nerd be loved by gorgeous women’ approach, they now offer you the real deal. Using their deodorant, you will be changed into a yummy chocolate man and all women will want to have a piece of you. I think I’m going to move to the US, buy the deodorant and then sue Axe for not living up to its promises. Hah!

Here’s a pretty keen approach for a DM for an optician. He wanted to attract clients he hadn’t seen in a long time. Due to deteriorating eye sight over the years, they’d probably be needing new eye glasses at that point. So, the agency created a sales letter in the form of an eye test chart. The optician explains at contacts that their current glasses probably aren’t strong enough anymore – eye sight can deteriorate even when wearing glasses. To demonstrate this, the characters in the letter gradually shrink to a size so small only people with perfect eye sight can read properly. People having difficulties reading those last sentences are invited by the optician for an eye test. The result was that 12% of the contacts scheduled an appointment for a test.

Copy at the bottom of the letter:
“Is it difficult for you to read these letters? If it is, than please drop by for a free eye test”

Tarantino Guerrilla

December 11th, 2007 No comments

Although it might seem a bit horrific to some, it is the utter example of coolness to others: cinema lovers in Amsterdam got quite a scare when they saw a severed arm promoting a DVD laying in front of Tuschinski, one of the biggest local cinemas. In fact, movie lovers all over the Netherlands might find a bloody limb in front of their local cinema. The arms promote the DVD release of the latest Quentin Tarantino flick ‘Death Proof’ in which a severed limb or two can be expected. Nachos, anyone?

Thousands of Jumbo Squid washed ashore in California

December 8th, 2007 5 comments

Thousands of jumbo flying squid (Dosidicus gigas) or Humboldt squid, were found stranded on southern California beaches over the summer of 2002. The normal range of these squid, also known as Humboldt squid, is from Peru north to Baja California. However, warm water events such as El Niño can extend the range of these squid to Oregon.

The first reported stranding was on July 18 at Swami’s Beach in Encinitas, CA, where approximately 200 squid were found over a mile stretch of shore. Their mantle lengths ranged from 16 to 24 inches, and they weighed between 2 and 2.5 pounds. On July 25, several thousand squid beached themselves at La Jolla Shores (pictured above), about 15 miles north of San Diego. Scientiests believe they squid were following prey, possibly grunion, a small fish, and washed ashore alive but were unable to get back into the water and died. City work crews were called to help remove tons of dead fish.
